My writing goal for this fall has been to perfect my short story writing skills by revisiting some work on short stories I have done in the past. I have always been interested in writing and that interest goes hand in hand with my interest in reading. When I was younger and I finished a book that I particularly enjoyed, one of my favorite things to do was to write sequels. I wanted to know more about what happened next to these characters I loved so much or what would happen if they were put into different situations or different settings. So I answered these questions myself by writing sequels. Later in life, I busied myself with reading and writing for school and did not have as much time to write for pleasure. But, when I did have time to read for pleasure, I couldn't help but think about the work I was reading. How would I have written that dialogue? What if that chapter had ended this way? The questions I asked when I was younger never went away. So, when I took a Creative Writing class and a Fiction Writing class as part of my coursework in college on my path to becoming an English teacher, naturally, I was excited to try my hand at writing short stories again like the sequels I had written as a child, and I was also pleasantly surprised that I was still pretty good at it as an adult. Writing my own fiction is different than using an existing book as a spring board and it is a skill I would like to improve. The short story that appears on this wiki has been revised many times and was first written as an assignment for my Fiction Writing class. It focuses on the topic of love, because I am a romantic at heart, and most of my writing tends to focus on love in some way or another. My goal for this story at the start of this semester was to revisit it and improve it by making the dialogue and characters stronger. But, after meeting with my writing group and hearing their feedback on how much they loved the characters in my story, I decided to continue my tradition of writing sequels. To share on this wiki, I wrote a few paragraphs of the start of what could be another chapter in a novel about my characters or the start of a whole new short story or book starring the characters my group loved.
